here was a time when honor was all; before the gun, before the industrial revolution, before the mediocrity of mass production. A time of courtly love, of valorous tournaments fought for a lady's honor, a time when people were respected for the nobility of their characters and skills of their hands, voices, and minds.

ere, in the midst of the modern world, there is still room for the individual who embraces that dream of Chivalry. There is a place where a craftsperson, the musician, the person with talents ignored or scorned by the everyday world can gain recognition and titles on the basis of achievement. That place is the SCA, the Society for Creative Anachronism.

n Anachronism is a thing out of its proper place in time, and the SCA strives to bring the dreams and ideals of the Middle Ages into the present day by actively recreating those aspects of Medieval life most favorable to the continuation of those dreams. Research and a desire for authenticity help to create the ambiance of Medieval times. The pageantry of costume and armor create a feeling of reality, a feeling of stepping back through time to a simpler and more Chivalric age.

embership in the SCA is open to everyone who has an interest and desire to learn more about the lifestyle and customs of the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods, and who is willing to abide by our customs and practices. While membership is not required to attend events, if you do decide to become a member you will receive a subscription to the monthly newsletter of the East Kingdom.
