They will be held at Padraig's on the days of Archery Practices beginning with this Thursday. However, the starting times will be a bit later. Sundays will begin at 2pm (archery begins at 1pm) and Thursdays will begin at 6:30 (archery begins at 5pm). Since the amount of time on Thursdays is limited since the sun is setting earlier and earlier, I ask that if anyone is planning on attending to either email me (drkael at comcast.net) or text me (302-753-8470) to let me know that you are coming so that I can try and get there earlier and set up the range. Anyone over age 5 can come and throw. No experience is necessary and I will have some equipment that people can borrow. The traditional thrown weapons are axes, knives and spears; however, other items may be thrown if the marshal deems them safe to throw (note: small items such as throwing stars and darts will not be permitted since if they miss the target they can be very hard to find in the grass and thus can cause foot injuries). Items that have been thrown have included such things as trenching shovels, pizza cutters, saw blades and even a kitchen sink (just to say that it had been done). One thing to note, we will be using steel weapons not blunted, plastic or nerf weapons; they can cause injuries if improperly used. Safety comes first. Any unsafe weapon or person will not be allowed on the range. As per EK thrown weapons policy, minors aged 5-11 can only throw if a parent is present and watching. Once they have proven that they are safe on the range, minors aged 12-17 need not have a parent watching (although, as per EK policy, a second adult must be present). EK thrown weapons policy can be found at: http://thrown-weapons.eastkingdom.org/ I recommend reading through sections VI Range Procedures and VII Range Etiquette prior to coming to practice. Also there are some other links on that page that beginners may find helpful. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. If it clears and I am undamaged I will post by noon that it is back on. Keep to the high ground. Padraig ---------- Original Message ---------- From: drkael at comcast.net To: caeradamant at yahoogroups.com Subject: [CaerAdamant] Thrown Weapons practices Date: Thu, 25 Aug 2011 19:43:50 +0000 (UTC) Having just taken a look at weather.com, it looks like there will be a line of storms hitting Middletown at about the time I would be getting there. So, I will not be driving down, which means no thrown weapons practice. I can't speak for Padraig and the archery practice, but I would think he is not expecting many people tonight. Oh, and as for Sunday's thrown weapons practice; if the hurricane hits as expected, assume that practice is canceled as well. I don't think throwing knives into 100 mph winds would be a good idea. Hopefully, next Thursday will be dry and we'll have a TW practice.
